Prof. Dr. Sevgi YARDIM AKAYDIN
Sevgi Yardim-Akaydin, born in Trabzon in 1967, completed her primary, secondary and high school education in Trabzon. She was admitted to Gazi University Faculty of Pharmacy in 1985, and after graduating in 1989, she started to work as a research assistant in the Department of Biochemistry. She received the MSc degree in 1992 and PhD degree in 1999. She became assistant professor in 2002, associate professor in 2006 and professor in 2012. In July-December 2003, she has been as a visiting scholar at Michigan State University in the USA. She was a member of the Faculty and Board of Directors, member of LLP / Erasmus Committee, membership of ECTS Commission and member of Internship Committee and department coordinator of GÜADEK in Gazi University, Faculty of Pharmacy. Between 2014-2017, she was the head of the Department of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy in GU. Between 2015-2019, she was the head of the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy in GU. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Pharmaceutical Sciences Ankara Association (FABAD) during the period of 2008-2010, secretary of the association between 2010-2014, and member of the Board of Directors during 2014-2016. She is still the vice president of FABAD. Her research areas include; the role of free radical and antioxidants in cancer and cardiovascular diseases, investigation of free radical damage markers, total antioxidant capacity measurement techniques and current research and interests include; DNA damage in cancer repair mechanisms and drug resistance. She is married and has two children.
