Sevgi Akaydın, born in Trabzon in 1967, completed her primary, secondary and high school education in Trabzon. She was admitted to Gazi University Faculty of Pharmacy in 1985, and after graduating in 1989, she started to work as a research assistant in the Department of Biochemistry. Under the supervision of Prof.Dr.Meral Torun, she received the MSc degree in 1992 and PhD degree in 1999. She became assistant professor in 2002, associate professor in 2006 and professor in 2012. In July-December 2003, she has been as a visiting scholar at Michigan State University in the USA. She was a member of the Faculty and Board of Directors, member of LLP / Erasmus Committee, membership of ECTS Commission and member of Internship Committee and department coordinator of GÜADEK in Gazi University, Faculty of Pharmacy. She is still a member of Strategic Planning Team, R&D Team, Education / External Relations Team and Crisis Management Team. Between 2014 and2017, she was the head of the Department of Biochemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy in GU. Between 2015 and 2019, she was the head of the Department of Basic Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy in GU. She served as a member of the Executive Board in the 2008-2010 period, as the secretary of the association in the 2010-2014 period, as a member of the Board of Directors in the 2014-2016 period, and as the vice-president in the 2018-2020 period at the Ankara Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences (FABAD). Her research areas; the role of free radicals and antioxidants in cancer and cardiovascular diseases, investigation of free radical damage markers and current research and interests; repair mechanisms of DNA damage, therapy and drug resistance in cancer.
