Melike Hacer Özkan was born in Zonguldak on June 30, 1978. She completed her secondary and high school education in Devrek High School, Zonguldak. She was admitted to Hacettepe University, Faculty of Pharmacy in 1995 and graduated from there with the bachelor of science degree in 1999. In 2002, she completed her masters program in the Department of Pharmacology at the same faculty and in 2009 she received her PhD degree. She worked as an academic visitor in the Department of Vascular Pharmacology, University of Oxford, England in 2012 for a year. She has been an associated professor since 2015 and currently teaching in the Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Hacettepe University.
Her research interests focus on vascular pharmacology. She works on the projects that examine the regulatory role of the endothelium on the vascular smooth muscle tone in resistant and capacitive vessels, and how this regulation changes in the presence of cardiovascular diseases such as diabetes.
